Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infection

Human papillomavirus (also called HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection. There are many different types of HPV, most of which are asymptomatic and resolve without treatment. When HPV infections persist, they can cause health problems such as genital warts and cancers in both men and women. Preventing HPV is easier than treating HPV. The HPV vaccines External link are safe and highly effective at preventing the most common types of HPV that cause cervical cancer and genital warts.

While there is no cure for the virus itself, there are treatments for the diseases and conditions caused by HPV.
